Media Changes - HD, XM, iPod - Affect all Broadcasters
by James Morrow, KAWA-LP, Callaway, NE

Change is relevant to what we are doing as local broadcasters. I have been seeing the improvements and versatility in XM radio at the local WalMart and that in itself is enough to make us all think about what next month will bring. I realize that we cannot just be glorified jukebox stations, we are going to have to commit to being local!

This is a call to all low power operators to start communicating and sharing ideas, successes and failures with each other. It is amazing what Apple has done to recreate their company from where it was just five years ago. We as local broadcasters have limited resources, but like Apple of old, we too are behind the gun and time is running out. That shadow behind us is technology my friends and it is gaining and stealing our audience! If you have any doubt of what I speak, go down to Walmart and look what's playing in the electronics department.  Chances are all the boomboxes will be tuned to 88.1 and playing XM!.
